Right. So, a lot of times with with people, they work off the books. And you know what I've learned, something that I didn't know or I wasn't familiar with when I first started doing this is, you know, we hear people working off the books and there's reasons for it and people want to have cash, but really the issue becomes you have people who are underserved in underserved communities and they'll take any job that they can get. And a lot of times the bosses will say, "We'll pay you cash. They can avoid

minimum wage. They can avoid insurance premiums. all these things, but you're still covered. It again may be difficult to prove the exact earnings, but we can prove it. And the court is relatively willing to allow testimony to establish what your wages were. We have many clients work off the books. The worst thing, the worst scenario, honestly, is when you have a job that pays you on the books for a very small percentage of your earnings and then off the books in cash. Because what happens with that is

00:00:56

we can't claim the off the books income if we have proof of on the books income. So if they're paying you $1,000 a week and 250 of it is by check, the rest is in cash, we're only going to be able to claim that 250 a week. So just keep that in your head when you have a case. But yes, if you're if you're working off the books or you're being paid cash, you are covered under New York State workers compensation without question.
