A sedentary lifestyle can debilitate employees in the long run, which is both detrimental to the health of individuals, and the productivity for employers. However, the following advice may be able to help combat the symptoms and causes of back pain.

Prevention and Treatment Tips

As an employee who remains seated for a good portion of the day, you may be at additional risk for experiencing back pain. Remaining seated for extended continuous amounts of time is considered to be especially dangerous. Consider taking short, intermittent breaks throughout the work day. Try and stand up, or take a brief walk every 30-45 minutes. Even if the walk is short, the interruption of the sedentary habits can be quite beneficial. Some individuals may find that by constantly drinking water throughout the day, you will not only experience alertness, but it may also encourage you to take frequent breaks to use the restroom; which will naturally break up the continuous stretches of sitting.

Diet may also help contribute to your overall health. Food rich in antioxidants are known for their ability to fight inflammation which can reduce pressure and pain throughout the body. Some common antioxidant rich foods:

  • Dark Chocolate
  • Wild Blueberries
  • Pecans
  • Goji Berries
  • Kidney Beans
  • Artichokes
  • Cranberries

Though a strong diet and active work habits can prove beneficial in combatting word induced back pain, they may be used in concurrence with chiropractic treatment, with a physical therapist Rockville MD trusts, to improve overall results. Chiropractors experience some of the most extensive training of all professions in the medical field. Chiropractors are trained to not only to diagnose and treat symptoms, but often have knowledge related to exercises used to prevent the risk of the injury from reoccurring. In general, chiropractic methods include the adjustment or realignment of the spine. Poor posture, impact, or general wear and tear on the body can result in the vertebrae become misaligned. The vertebrae may place pressure on nerves throughout the spine, resulting in chronic pain. After an adjustment, patients may experience noticeable pain relief shortly after the visit.

Contact an Attorney

Though the tips may be helpful in treating or preventing back pain, in some instances, the pain or injury is unavoidable. If you believe your pain is the result of hazardous work conditions or a negligent employer, discuss your concerns with a personal injury attorney. If the attorney agrees that the employer exhibited negligence, you may be advised to pursue a suit; which could result in compensation for chiropractic expenses and other damages.
